“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” — Matthew 25:35
It’s really easy to focus on ourselves. We all do it. But something happens when we shift our focus on those around us. For us, following Jesus isn’t about Sunday mornings or Thursday nights – it’s about how you live from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed. It’s about the choices you make. It’s about the ways that, well, your life isn’t just about you. At West Vancouver United Church, we’ve set up a bunch of opportunities for you to put your faith into practice, because we love to see you grow, and learn, and discover who God made you to be. Of course, we definitely don’t have all the answers, but we adjust as we go, learning along the way.
Have an idea? That’s awesome! There are few things we love more than your ideas. If there’s a project you want to get off the ground, or need help getting off the ground, send us a message and we’ll see how we can help give wings to your vision.
One of our main projects, the Oppenheimer Project is a monthly program that touches on questions of social justice, inequality, poverty and mental health issues. The Downtown Eastside is complex, and we have been partnering with the Oppenheimer Community Centre for over 10 years to help out. Click here for more details…
Every 2 years, we return to the same community in Mexico to build a house for a family in need. One year, it was for a young mother whose husband had died in a car accident. Another, it was for a family of 5 living in a van. The Mexico trips are about love. They’re about global awareness. They’re about being like Jesus to people we don’t know, and in turn discovering that they were like Jesus to us. Click here for more details…
